They are often seen buzzing from flower to flower, and it is hard to imagine life without bees. These hard-working invertebrates have been pollinating our plants and producing honey for millions of years. There is no doubt that bees are some of the hardest working creatures on the planet. Worldwide there are more than 25,000 different types of bee species, which are one of the most effective pollinators of almost 20% of all flowering plant species in the world and of approximately 400 different types of agricultural plants that we use as a food source.

Our lives and the world would be very different if bees did not exist. One of the main threats to our beloved bees is the use of toxic pesticides. Although pesticides are designed to kill pests, because of their intense toxicity they also have adverse effects on other insects, including bees. Neonicotinoids, in particular, cause a great deal of harm to bees because when they are sprayed on plants they are absorbed. Thus, when a bee comes to pollinate such a plant, it ingests this pesticide and can severely damage the bee’s central nervous system.

Flowers have an attractiveness like no other. The color, smell, shape, size, timing and reward (nectar or pollen) of a flower can increase or decrease the number of visits of certain pollinators. Growing flowers makes us highly responsible for the protection of our planet, especially in Colombia, a country that represents one of the most important producers worldwide. At Capiro we care for our flowers as much as we care for the bees. We are proud to say that at Flores El Capiro, 99% of our pest control products are biorational and organic. As well as the use of bee-restricting products has been 100% discontinued.
